Volunteers & Families

Who are Home-Start Volunteers?

Home-Start welcomes Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds with parenting experience.  They do not need specific qualifications but they do need the ability to

  • Listen with understanding
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be committed to the Scheme and to the family they visit.

Volunteers are friendly and understand the challenges of being a parent.

Volunteers visit one or more families each week in their own homes offering 2-3 hours of their time and friendship.

A family might be supported for a few months or well over a year.

Who Can Home-Start Help?

Lonely or isolated parents. Families with multiple births or several pre-school children. Families where there is ill health/disability/special needs. Families who are new to the area. Families from all backgrounds, provided they have at least one child under the age of five. The reasons are many and varied.
