Welcome to Home-Start
Northampton
Home-Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of
families with at least one child under five years of age.
Volunteers offer
regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their
own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

About Home-Start Northampton
This Scheme has
been supporting families with young children living within the Borough of Northampton
for 26 years. It was started in 1982.
Between April 2007 and
March 2008, 66 volunteers helped to support 77 families with 193 children. Health Visitors
and other health and social service professionals referred many families to us whilst others referred themselves.
We are fortunate in this county to
have 6 schemes, which between them cover the whole of Northamptonshire. Each scheme is an independent registered charity that is funded and managed locally.
Home-Start UK, the largest charity in the UK supporting families, provides
guidance and training for all local schemes to ensure consistency and quality
across the country.
The Board of Trustees has overall
responsibility for managing Home-Start Northampton and ensuring it acts at all
times within the constitution and the Home-Start Agreement. Membership of the
Board represents a wide cross-section of the community and includes
representatives from statutory and voluntary agencies as well as Home-Start
Volunteers.
