About Us

Home-Start Northampton is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age.

Home-Start Northampton was established in 1982.  We are based in the Town Centre and serve the Borough of Northampton.  The scheme provides a unique service for families - recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home by offering friendship and practical help to local families.  We work in partnership with families to develop confidence, positive relationships with their children and to widen links within the community.

The scheme maintains a team of volunteers providing a much-needed support and befriending service to families.  Visiting families at home is basic to the Home-Start approach.  Volunteers offer a realistic, flexible response and a caring attitude rather than a clearly defined method of working.  By sharing their time and friendship volunteers offer families opportunities to develop new relationships, fresh ideas, and enhanced skills and capabilities.

The Scheme is managed by a Trustee Board of representatives from local statutory and voluntary agencies, representatives of the volunteers, and independent members.  Our local Patron is Lady Lowther.

Home-Start Northampton employs a Scheme Manager, a Co-ordinator, a Family Support Worker and a part-time Administrator and has a committed team of volunteers supporting a minimum of 74 families each year. We are currently funded by Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Primary Care Trust, Northampton Borough Council and a multitude of other grants and donations, and is an independent registered incorporated charity, No.1116665
